Appointments

  • We offer a choice of booking appointments in person, via the telephone or online.
  • We only book these up to 2 weeks ahead, but we always ensure patients are seen for urgent problems.
  • Some appointments can be booked online: cervical smears, blood tests, immunisations, health checks, asthma and COPD reviews.

Our trained care navigators will ask you questions specific to your problem, and if you need to see a doctor, they will offer you an appointment depending on how urgent it is.

Pharmacy and Self Care

See a Pharmacist

Many conditions can be treated without the need to see your GP.

You can be referred to the pharmacy for a range of problems and minor ailments. Our trained navigators will ask you for specific information and if appropriate, make a referral to the pharmacy where you will be seen confidentially. If they feel that you do need a GP appointment, they will let us know.

Book an Appointment

Urgent appointments for today

All requests for a same-day appointment will require details about what the problem or need is. If it is something that only a GP can manage then a doctor will phone you back to discuss this and the doctor will decide whether an appointment is needed.

To be fair to everyone, reception will not book same-day appointments for patients coming into the surgery, everyone will need to be phoned back by the doctor.

Ways to book

Extended Access

We also have extended access available. See our Out of Hours information.

Book a routine appointment

These appointments are 10-minute slots for routine issues. You can book a routine appointment up to a week in advance. If you feel you need a same day appointment, you will be called back by a GP to discuss this and they will book you an appointment if necessary. Please note that when the GP calls you the number will show as 'Withheld'.

Ways to book

  1. Request an appointment online
  2. Use our online services
  3. Download the NHS App
  4. Visit us at the practice and book in person
  5. Telephone: 0117 2444123

Paramedic Appointments

Our paramedic is a prescriber. They can also refer you for tests, and outpatient appointments.

They can see more complex problems and also review hypertension, heart failure and asthma. If you have already seen a GP about your problem, they will not be able to see you.

Telephone Appointments

When the practice phones you the number will appear as ‘Withheld’.

You can request a phone back from a GP to discuss an issue which does not require a face-to-face consultation

  • A GP will call you back after their morning or afternoon surgery (depending on the time of day the appointment was made), or possibly earlier than this is they have time between appointments. Unfortunately, we cannot give a precise time for these calls.
  • These appointments are usually booked on the same day, but can also be booked in advance if this is appropriate.

Practice Nurse Appointments

Practice Nurse appointments are booked in advance for ongoing management of chronic diseases (such as asthma and diabetes), as well as other services such as cervical smears, sexual health and immunisations.

  • Cervical smears (cytology)
  • Childhood immunisations.
  • ECGs
  • Flu and pneumonia vaccinations
  • Adult immunisations
  • Wound Care
  • Stitch removal
  • Health Checks
  • Travel vaccinations

For further details on specific services, please see the Clinics & Services page of this website.

Healthcare Assistant Appointments

Our Healthcare Assistants can see patients for ECGs, diabetic reviews, hypertension reviews, 24 hr BP monitoring, ear irrigation (requested by audiology) dopplers, some adult immunisations, wound care and blood tests.

Blood Test Appointments (Phlebotomy)

Our phlebotomy appointments are for the taking of blood samples only.

We will only perform blood tests if they have been requested by your GP or other health care professional. We will only take blood from children over 7 years of age.

Sickness Certificates (Fit Notes)

If you attend an emergency appointment for the purpose of getting a medical certificate, you will be asked to rebook.

You can request a sick note online.

  • If you have not had one before, you may need to see or speak to a doctor.
  • If you have been in hospital, it is their responsibility to issue you the first sick note.

We cannot issue sick notes in advance, and they may take up to 5 working days if your GP is not available. Sick notes can be back-dated so it is not necessary to make an emergency appointment to renew your certificate.

Visit our Sickness Certificates page for request details

Home Visits

If you need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception as early as you can. We do not usually book home visits in advance, and often the GP will call to assess whether or not a home visit is appropriate.

Telephone: 0117 2444123

Home visits are only for patients who are housebound. You may be asked to come into the surgery if someone can bring you. If you go out shopping or to hospital appointments, you are not deemed housebound.

For advice and information only, please contact 111 during the day. They can signpost you to various services, find you an emergency dentist, and support you if you are having a mental health crisis. For medical problems after 6:30pm and at week ends, they are here to help.

111 may say that you need to contact your surgery within 2 hours (or longer) if you have called them during a working day. This does not mean you will be seen within 2 hours or longer. Our trained care navigators will assess your problem and deal with it appropriately.
